    10 Signs You Need a Holiday Soon

    Holidays – we all love them but we rarely get to take a decent break away from the hustle of everyday life. Expedia released research that showed that Australians are taking less leave each year. In fact, most people opt for a weekend away instead of a decent holiday, while one in six of us failed to take any leave in 2019.

    We know just how important it is to take a break from the office so we’ve put together a great little list of signs that you need to book a getaway pronto!

    1. Little problems are turning into big issues

    Is your normally positive attitude to work quickly turning negative? When those small problems we normally deal with quite easily on a day to day basis suddenly make us feel like pulling our hair out or screaming at our co-workers or clients, it’s time to step off the worksite and into holiday mode.

    1. People are noticing you don’t look well

    It’s not unusual that other people will start to notice you looking stressed or generally unwell before you recognise it yourself – and often people don’t even need to be close to you to recognise that you need a break. If your co-workers, clients, family, friends or even strangers keep approaching you and asking if you are ok, or noticing you look stressed, it’s a good sign that you need to book that holiday away.

    1. You start making silly mistakes

    We all make mistakes in the workplace, and usually they are easy fixes. But when you start making silly mistakes on work you do regularly, it is a sign that stress and tiredness may be creeping into your work life and you need to step back and take a break. In the middle of a project or trying to set up a great contract with a new client? See if you can cut back even half a day a week, finish the task at hand and then book a week or two away.

    1. Lost any excitement and interest in your work

    Losing interest and excitement in going to work is something that happens to everyone; we aren’t feeling well, the baby has been up all night for the last week and you haven’t been sleeping, you’re working under the pump to get a project finished and so on. But these things normally only last a short while and your usual interest in the work you do comes back as soon as everything goes back to normal. If this isn’t happening, or your lack of interest and excitement is stretching on for far too long, jump online and book that family holiday to somewhere relaxing.

    1. Daily pain… everywhere

    Something a lot of people don’t correlate with needing a holiday is a feeling a general pain and soreness. Good signs are headaches, eye strain and backaches. Sometimes this can come from not getting enough sleep or rest, not nourishing ourselves correctly during busy periods, or general stress.

    1. You aren’t sleeping

    Getting through the day when you haven’t been sleeping very well is hard – you’re tired, you’re grumpy and all you want to do is go home. Stress is a great cause of lack of sleep, and is a sure-fire way to ensure your day at work isn’t going to go well. If you haven’t been getting a lot of sleep, or haven’t been sleeping well, it’s time to look into a relaxing holiday away.

    1. You can’t remember what your family and friends look like

    If you’ve been working that much that you haven’t put your kids to bed in months, haven’t sat down for dinner with your partner in weeks or can’t even remember the last BBQ you had with friends, it’s time for a break. Sadly, it’s not just you that feels the effects of stress and spending excess time at work.

    1. You have holiday envy

    Feeling annoyed every time a friend or colleague talks about their latest holiday, even if it’s just a camping trip to the beach? It’s a good sign you need to getaway.

    1. You can’t remember your last holiday

    When was the last time you took a holiday? And no, that one night you spent at your aunt’s 70th birthday doesn’t count! If you can’t remember your last holiday, it’s time to find that annual leave request form and book a few weeks away.

    1. You have tons of annual leave racked up

    If you haven’t taken a holiday for a while, it’s likely you have weeks or even months of annual leave racked up. Check with HR about how much time you have in annual leave, and start doing some research about that holiday you’ve always wanted to take.
