Spontaneous Destinations for Valentine’s Day 2012- New York, London and Zambia?

Valentine’s Day can be an absolute minefield if not given the proper consideration and planning it deserves. Do I get a box of chocolates, a nice dinner, a movie date, some jewellery or a trip to London or New York, or do I organise something totally unexpected like a Zambia safari?

We have all of the usual things to think about such as what is an appropriate gift to give, how much money should be spent and whether the present should be an experience or tangible item but these days, we also have to consider originality when it comes to picking the perfect present.

Valentines has become so popular and widely celebrated that it has become infinitely more difficult to avoid the usual tired clichés that come along with it. Heart shaped boxes of chocolates, flowers and oversized cards just don’t cut it anymore. You don’t want to get the same old thing and have your partner think that you don’t love or treasure them. An easy way to get around this is to organise a grand, spontaneous, over the top gesture such as a weekend away. No one can think that a holiday to a carefully chosen destination can be anything less than perfect and romantic.

    London

London is considered by many to be one of the world’s leading cultural centres and even a short trip here can give you a feel for the city. Embark on an open-topped bus tour to see all the landmarks, take in a show in the West End and visit one of the many fabulous five star hotels and your Valentine will be swept off their feet.

    New York

Known as the ‘City that Never Sleeps’, you can be sure to find interesting things to see and do here. A romantic stroll through the park, a night time visit to Times Square and guaranteed shopping time are probably all you need to make this an unforgettable holiday.

    Zambia

Alternatively, why not think outside the box completely and plan a Zambian safari for two. It could be an experience you’ll never forget. Valentines is the time to ‘go big or stay home’ as they say and nothing is bigger than a surprise trip to Zambia.

Nights spent in the lap of luxury in one of the many quality resorts or nestled into a private villa with a view of the stars will be a perfect backdrop for romance and bonding. Explore the world of safari and get close to animals you only ever dreamed of seeing. Your throat may get dry from the ‘oooohing’ and ‘aaaahing’ of it all, but the champagne in the evening at dinner will soon revive you.

If you can manage it, a trip to Victoria Falls will complete the experience for you both. One of the natural wonders of the world, it is well worth the visit to see and feel this magnificent waterfall. You’ll already be in Zambia, so how could you pass it up?
