With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to whisk that special someone away on a romantic getaway. The only problem is choosing where to go. Europe is like a box of chocolates when it comes to cities that exude romance. Here’s a few tips on how to save some cash whilst keeping hold of the romance.
Prague – Czech Republic’s little romantic gem
Prague represents great value for money for those planning a romantic break on a tighter budget. Listed as a World Heritage Site, the city provides a perfect backdrop for romance, with endless cobbled streets, palaces, cathedrals and plenty of cosy cafés. Don’t forget to walk across Charles Bridge – it is Europe’s most romantic bridge and has some stunning views up the Vltava River, it’s also free. The only concern is that it can be chilly in February, so don’t forget to bring a scarf!
Paris – the “city of love”
Although Paris is the 2nd most expensive city in Europe, it can be enjoyed on a budget. Just walking hand-in-hand through quaint Parisian streets can be a romantic way of soaking up the stunning architecture and iconic monuments that the city has to offer. Go for a stroll along the banks of the River Seine or see some of the best views of the city at Sacré-Cœur; it doesn’t cost much and is sure to leave you with fond memories of your romantic break. Investing in a Paris Visité Pass is the most cost-effective way of getting around; a five day pass costs less than €30. With all that saving, you can even afford to enjoy a kiss at the top of the Eiffel Tower in the evening!
Venice – perfect place to disappear for a few days
The city on the water is great for a romantic getaway, and what’s more, it can all be done on a budget! The famous romantic gondola rides along the canals cost in excess of €80, but you can get a similar experience on a traghetto ferry-bus service for much cheaper! When you get off on the other side, lose yourselves in the maze of canals and Venetian streets. You’ll cross dozens of picturesque little bridges along the way and stumble into a few romantic piazzas too.
If you’re looking to start the budget early, take a look at some great city break deals and plan that perfect break for two!
