Nightlife hotspots you shouldn’t miss on a Cancun holiday

Cancun in Mexico has got itself a bit of a reputation as a party destination, making this the perfect place to visit if you want to let your hair down in a fantastic beach setting. Of course, as with any city, some bars and clubs offer a better experience than others.

Check out our guide to discover what these are in Cancun!

    Beach House, ME Cancun

Go here if: you want to start your night out in style

Cancun has its fair share of cheap and cheerful haunts, but if it’s your first time in the city and you want to mark the occasion with a special drink, the sophisticated Beach House at the ME Cancun resort is the place to go.

The star attraction here is the outdoor dining area, which is covered with a thatched roof and offers amazing views of the Caribbean Sea. The food – which is mainly a modern take on Mexican classics like quesadillas and tacos – is definitely worth trying, but most people will be happy to simply relax with a cocktail as they watch the evening turn into full night.

    Carlos ‘n Charlie’s

Go here if: you just wanna have fun

Carlos ‘n Charlie’s is popular among tourists for its loud, fun atmosphere and lashings of booze and food. This is the kind of place to visit if you don’t care about appearing cool/glamorous/etc and want to focus more on just having a fabulous time!

The entertainment is excellent – you never really know what you’re going to get when you visit Carlos ‘n Charlie’s. Whether it’s impromptu bar-top dancing or a performance by a professional singer, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have fun.

    The City

Go here if: you want a full-on, all-night clubbing experience

It’s safe to say that this is a mega club of the highest order – it’s actually the biggest in Latin America, with three levels, a capacity of 6,000 people and nine bars. So, if you want the ultimate clubbing experience, this has to be it!

Some big names have DJed/performed here in the past, including Ludacris, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Fergie and Flo Rida, so it’s worth checking the events calendar on The City’s website to see if there are any special concerts or DJ sets taking place when you intend to visit.

    Coco Bongo

Go here if: you like the thought of acrobats flying over your head while you dance

Another mega club, Coco Bongo differs from The City in that its entertainment is a bit more varied than its larger counterpart. Of course, there’s the usual DJ sets of dance, techno, hip hop and other music, but you can also boogie away to live salsa and rock bands, as well as retro tunes from the 70s and 80s.

Keep an eye out for the odd flying acrobat and bar-top conga line, which are wheeled out to make sure things stay exciting. If you love musicals and similarly bombastic shows, check out the club’s calendar – it has previously hosted the likes of Beetlejuice and the Phantom of the Opera.
