Every year, it seems as if traveling is getting more and more expensive. If you have a family of four or even more, I don’t even know how you afford it! Taking a family to Disney World can easily run you $2,000+ just for a few days. Now that is a lot of money!
Since some of the most expensive parts of the trip are airline tickets, I wanted to give you some pointers on how you can get airline tickets for next to nothing. While some are going to require a little bit of work, you will find that if you put effort into some these, they can really pay off.
#1 Sign up for an airline credit card
If you don’t have a credit card in your wallet that gives you airline rewards, I would highly look into considering one. What you’re going to find out is that there are a lot of cards that will give you an airline ticket for free just for signing up! While some may require that you make a certain amount of purchases, you will want to make sure that you read into the fine print. Some are going to have fees, and if you’re uncomfortable with this, you can always cancel after your first year.
#2 Join the frequent flyer clubs
All airlines have some sort of frequent flyer club that you can join. You will get miles for every mile that you fly. In exchange, you can turn those miles into free tickets. When you sign up, look for opportunities to load up on miles. For example, with my Delta miles card, I can log in, and complete offers. These offers will take me about 30 seconds to complete, and in exchange I will get 5 miles added to my account. These points add up fairly fast, trust me on this one!
#3 Look into vacation packages
There are many vacation packages out there, but did you know that there are some that will give you free airline tickets? Look for some vacation spots that will throw in the airline tickets for free. If not, some may offer them for a heavy discount. Great places to start are sites such as Priceline, Hotwire and more.
#4 Fly stand by
While this isn’t a free tick offer right now, this works really well if you’re going to fly regardless. If you can, offer to fly stand by if they need passengers to do so. A few years ago, I was able to fly stand by, and in exchange, they gave me free food, a hotel AND a free airline ticket that could be used anywhere in the United States. This all cost me about 12 hours of my time. It was well worth it!
While there are many ways to save on airline tickets, getting a free ticket in general is rather hard. Try out the tips above, and see if you can get something for next to nothing! Good luck!
