New York State is home to an abundance of wineries, from Lake Erie to Long Island and all along the length of the entire state. New York is the third ranking grape producer in the USA, after California and Washington. There is a long history of wine-making in New York State, starting in the 17th century with Dutch and Huguenot vineyards in the Hudson Valley region. New York is home to the very first bonded winery in the USA, Pleasant Valley Wine Company, which opened in the 1860s. You can visit this winery in Hammondsport. Many companies offer wine tours through New York State, where you can spend the day sipping all different varieties and learning about the history of the vineyards.

Exploring the history of Albany.

Albany is the capital of New York, and it is full of history and distinctive architecture with everything from high rise skyscrapers to churches and temples. It was the location of Fort Orange, which was very important in early American history. Albany was also a hotspot for alcohol smuggling from Canada in the Prohibition Era. Architecture and history buffs will love exploring this city, or even taking a walking tour to learn more about its past.
