The Knoxville Museum of Art

The Knoxville Museum of Art is a museum in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was founded in 1913 and is one of the largest museums in the Southeast.

The museum was founded by Mary E. Powell who envisioned a “beautiful building” that would be “a temple for art.” The building was designed by architect John Nolen and construction began in 1914.

The building was completed in 1917 with an entrance on Gay Street and an entrance on Jackson Avenue. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

It has over 100,000 visitors each year and features over 100 works of art from around the world, with plenty of pieces to see.

Some recent exhibitions include “Tennessee: Landscape & Architecture” which ran from September 8-November 10, 2017 and “Drawing with Words” which ran from October 27-January 11, 2018.

The Knox County Museum of Natural History

The Knox County Museum of Natural History has been open since 1965. It is a place where people can learn about the natural world and explore their own curiosity.

The  museum is located in downtown Gatlinburg in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Cherokee Orchard Road next to Gatlinburg’s historic downtown area.

Home to over 12,000 square feet of exhibits, including rocks, minerals, fossils, animals, plants, and more. Sites for kids and adults alike!

It also has a lot to offer outside of its exhibits. It hosts lectures, workshops, and festivals throughout the year.

McWhorter Museum Of African American History

The McWhorter Museum of African American History is a museum in Washington D.C. dedicated to African American history, culture, and art. It was founded by the late Dr. John McWhorter who amassed a collection of artifacts and memorabilia that is said to be the largest in the world.

The museum is named after McWhorter, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 79 years old. He was a professor of linguistics at Columbia University. He established the museum with his wife, Marnie McWhorter, in 1988.

He was also the founder of several museums across America including The Black Heritage Society Museum in Washington D.C.,The National Civil Rights Museum, and The McWhorter Museum Of African-American History. This was also the first museum dedicated to exploring the history of African Americans in Washington, D.C. and has been visited by over one million people since its opening.
